Born on May 31, 1964, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Rajeev Chandrasekhar's disciplined upbringing was shaped by his father, Air Commodore M. K. Chandrasekhar, and his mother, Valli Chandrasekhar. After schooling at St. Paul’s Convent School, Thrissur, and Kendriya Vidyalaya, Bengaluru, he pursued Electrical Engineering at the Manipal Institute of Technology.
In 1988, Rajeev earned a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, and began his career at Intel Corporation. There, he joined the elite architectural team that developed the revolutionary i486 processor—setting new standards for computing power.
Transforming Indian Telecom: From Intel to BPL
Returning to India in 1991, Rajeev joined the BPL Group and identified the immense potential of mobile communication. In 1994, he founded BPL Mobile, one of India’s first telecom service providers. Under his leadership, BPL Mobile democratized mobile connectivity during a time when telephones were a luxury.
